Gearing up to the annual DAF Fashion Show (which this year will be taking on a new and exciting format of a static show), the staff and students organised a fundraiser event.   Held on the 3rd of October at the college in Woodstock.

The Saturday morning kicked off with a trend presentation by fashion blogger, Tara Johannisen of Trend Soiree, who talked us through menswear and womenswear trends for the summer season. Check out her blog for some key summer wardrobe updates.

DAF students collaborated with photography students from the Stellenbosch University’s Visual Arts Department, who provided runway photography on the day as well as a make-shift studio shoot of all looks before they came onto the runway. The Make-up Issue took care of the hair and make-up for the models and the vibey sounds for the show was provided by the tech-savvy Cape Audio College students.

The First Years kicked off on the runway.   Presenting an all-white collection of summer looks inspired by the Neo-Boho trend.  This theme is a throwback to the loose, hippie styles of the 1970’s with a modern bohemian twist. It is soft, free spirited and above all feminine – think delicate cottons, crochet, lace, 70’s, tunic dresses, maxi dresses, frills, gathers, dream catchers, feathers and Coachella.

The Second Years showcased their menswear looks.  Each student designed for a specific customer and generated a custom print around their own unique theme.

In closing, DAF lecturer, Alexandra, presented a few looks from her latest Basics range accompanied by a fashion film of her label, Blanc.

The whole morning turned out to be a huge success, with a full house and the runway spontaneously turning into a dancefloor as the students celebrated their hard work.
