The Higher Certificate in Fashion is a one-year course that provides a foundation in fashion design through teaching essential knowledge and skills relating to the world of fashion. This course is perfect for those who already have a qualification in another field but wish to further their studies and focus their career on fashion. The Higher Certificate is also for those who have a passion for fashion design and want to dedicate one year to developing their fashion based knowledge and skills.
Students who enrol for the Higher Certificate gain foundational knowledge regarding fashion design which is then translated into pattern making and garment construction. The course develops each student’s knowledge and skills to a point where they would have designed and produced a number of outfits. In order to produce the various outfits students are taught basic sewing techniques, a foundational knowledge of textiles, a basic flat pattern set and how to construct 4 different garments namely a blouse, skirt, pants and bodice.
