The Bachelor of Fashion degree is the only degree of its kind in Cape Town. This program is designed exclusively for the fashion industry, focusing on sustainable practices, ethical production, and the future of fashion design.
The Bachelor of Fashion is a dynamic three-year program tailored to meet the evolving demands of both global and local fashion industries. SUBJECT CLUSTERS
Subjects are taught in four different clusters. Which includes a Design Cluster, Technical Cluster, Commercial Cluster and a Contextual Cluster.
DESIGN CLUSTER
Fashion Design, Illustration & Colour Theory, Digital Illustration Design
The Design Cluster equips students with the creative and technical skills to bring fashion concepts to life. From illustration and colour theory to advanced digital design tools, students develop a unique design aesthetic and market-ready portfolio, preparing them to innovate in the fast-paced fashion world.
TECHNICAL CLUSTER
Pattern Making, Garment Construction, Garment Engineering
In the Technical Cluster, students master the craft of patternmaking and garment construction. They learn to translate design ideas into expertly crafted garments, blending creativity with precision to bring their visions to reality, from concept to finished product.
COMMERCIAL CLUSTER
Marketing & Advertising, Retail Planning & Buying, Micro-Business Management
The Commercial Cluster bridges the gap between creativity and business. Students gain valuable insights into marketing, retail planning, and buying, enabling them to navigate the competitive fashion market, build strong brand identities, and drive commercial success in the industry.
CONTEXTUAL CLUSTER
Communication, Theory of Clothing, Textile Studies, Fashion Forecasting & Trend, Life Skills
The Contextual Cluster broadens students’ understanding of fashion’s cultural, social, and historical significance. It encourages critical thinking, research, and analysis, providing the foundation to explore the evolving role of fashion in society while fostering innovation and sustainability.

MOHAIR SOUTH AFRICA
As one of only three schools worldwide to partner with Mohair South Africa, we offer students a unique opportunity to explore the art of sustainable fashion. Through masterclasses and hands-on experiences with textiles, looms, knitting machines, felting, and dyeing, students create extraordinary pieces while embracing slow fashion and the beauty of mohair craftsmanship.
FIELDS
Fields partners with our second-year menswear module, where students present their brand concepts and receive expert feedback on sustainability and quality. Throughout the design process, Fields provides valuable insights, helping students refine their work. The final looks are showcased at the prestigious end-of-year fashion show.
TRUWORTHS
Truworths, in collaboration with their in-house brand Daniel Hechter, plays a key role in our Tailoring module. Beyond this, they offer exclusive experiences, including visits to their head office for presentations across various departments. Students participate in mock interviews to prepare for the industry, and Truworths proudly presents an award at our end-of-year fashion show, recognizing outstanding talent.
INDUSTRY PARTNERS
As part of the third-year curriculum, our Work Integrated Learning program connects students with leading industry partners. Students have the flexibility to choose their placements, gaining invaluable real-world experience. These placements often lead to future employment, bridging the gap between education and a successful career in fashion.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE
The requirements for admission into the Bachelor of Fashion:
- National Senior Certificate, NQF Level 4, granting access to Bachelor’s degree studies
Or
- National Certificate (Vocational) or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification, granting access to Bachelor’s degree studies
Or
- Higher Certificate, NQF Level 5, Advanced Certificate, Level 6 or Diploma, in a cognate field.
To achieve a bachelor pass in matric, the following requirements must be met by the student:
- Home Language: 40% or higher
- 4 High credit subjects: 50% or higher
- 2 Additional subjects: 30% or higher
