Cape Town-born and bred designer, Thobey Cooper, attributes his love for fashion to his mother whom he describes as his biggest, life-long supporter. As a child, she would often allow him to cut up her old curtains and garments to explore his creativity and express his artistic flair.
Nowadays, that playful expression can be seen at SAMW Spring/Summer 2020, where the DAF graduate (and dedicated philanthropist) debuted his vibrantly coloured collection titled, ‘Where We Started’.
Speaking to GQ magazine, Thobey says: “This collection was very personal to me as it highlights where I started as a child, where I am from and how my design career started. It also marks the beginning of a new venture, as this was my first SAMW showcase.”
