DAF Alumni, Thobey Cooper showed at the Digital SA Menswear Fashion Week in partnership with Cape Town Fashion Council on the 29th of July 2020. This is Thobey’s second year showing at this prestigious event and he did not disappoint with his SS21 capsule collection “METANOIA”. This brightly-hued gender-neutral range was shown on both men and woman at the digital event.
When asked about his inspiration Thobey Cooper said: “Metanoia is a greek term meaning-The journey of changing one’s mind, heart, self or way of life: spiritual conversion.”
The collection hopes to celebrate and educate people about change.
“Being the change and accepting change. This Collection celebrates the change we are slowly seeing in a society where people are starting to be more accepting of one another regardless of gender and preferences. A world where people are taking Gender Neutrality seriously.”
It is time we start educating those who are still in the dark and it starts from our little ones and not just adults. Pink for girls, blue for boys needs to stop, we are all one and all free to be.
With this collection I also created pieces that can easily be mixed and matched into different looks, easy to wear and take off and I am slowly working towards creating a sustainable fashion brand, creating one job at a time.”
We look forward to seeing what Thobey Cooper is up to next and wish him all the best!
